Moms Birthday : Second Course

Cronuts are the biggest thing right now and I have just found the next biggest thing! Are you ready? It is the MONUT!!!!!! It is a cross between a muffin and a doughnut and it is fantastic! Also, anyone can make it without a secret recipe, or waiting in line for five hours or more. You also don't have to pay somebody to wait in line or go to an auction for cronut! Here is the recipe:

MONUTS:
Makes 12

3 cups of all purpose flour
3 teaspoons of baking powder
1 teaspoon of salt
1/2 teaspoon of freshly grated nutmeg
1 cup of sugar
2/3 cup of shortening
2 eggs
1 cup of milk

Coating:

2 sticks of butter
1 1/2 cups of sugar
3 teaspoons of ground cinnamon

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Then lightly coat the 12 muffin cup pan with shortening. Next, in a large bowl add the flour, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg. In a mixer fitted with a paddle attachment, cream the shortening and the sugar. Add the eggs one by one and scrape down the sides with a rubber spatula. After the eggs are incorporated, alternate in thirds, adding the dry ingredients and the milk.
When everything is beaten together well, fill the muffin pans 2/3 the way up with the batter. Bake for 20-30 minutes, or until golden brown, turning the pan around during the process to make sure cooking is even. Remove from oven and turn out the muffins, and let them cool for 1 minute. For the coating melt the butter in a microwaveable safe dish. Also, in a separate container mix the sugar with the cinnamon to create… CINNAMON SUGAR! Now its time to get rolling! Roll the muffins one at a time in the butter and coat thoroughly, I use my hands for this because as Jacques Pepin said to me, " Your hands are the best tools in the kitchen." Next roll the buttery muffins into the cinnamon sugar and roll around to coat. Repeat with the remaining Monuts and try to hold off eating them as long as possible! Good luck and Bon Appetite!
