NYC #2

I just went to NYC with my dad and my uncle Joe. We had a spectacular time especially since my uncle Joe is a chocolatier. He is very knowledgeable about chocolate and it is interesting knowing all about chocolate. Anyway, we went to some amazing places in NYC, so now I am going to recommend some places for you to go.

Russ and Daughters:

Russ and Daughters is a great place to go if you like lox, and whitefish salad. One thing there is that lately, many of the men that work there don't speak English and have a hard time taking orders.  My dad did make this known to the owners and hopefully they will fix this because Russ and Daughters is the best place to get lox in the world!  Also, sometimes the bagels can be a bit stale sometimes. But if you go there, get their hamantaschen. (I don't think that I spelled that right but, whatever) They are delicious, get the poppyseed if they have them, the prune or the apricot. It will definitely satisfy your taste buds that crave a light buttery snack.

Russ and Daughters Cafe:

Russ and Daughters has been open for 100 years, and on that anniversary they opened a cafe. I wasn't sure if the cafe could live up to the standards of the old business, but boy was I wrong. The setting was modern, yet it kept true to its roots. All of the people there spoke English. The drink menu was exotic, and the food was outrageous!! I got the latkes with sour cream and applesauce and they were delicious. My uncle Joe got this unbelievable chopped chicken liver with matzah which was even better, and what topped all was the scrambled eggs with lox and onions, served with their famous rye bread. This sounds too simple to be that good right? Wrong! It tasted like heaven in my mouth, completed with an angel floating in my stomach, which sounds weird, but it was that good! The onions were perfectly cooked, the eggs were soft scrambled, my favorite, and the lox was tender and just heated to the point that it still had that silky lox texture that everybody likes.  The rye bread was also so good, you could just eat it piece by piece by piece without stopping. For dessert, we tried their halvah ice cream with salted caramel. The flavor was great, but the texture was icy. Next time I would try the chocolate babka french toast. AHHHH!! I can just imagine it now. The Russ and Daughters cafe is also handicap accessible. Overall, I think that anybody who goes to NYC should definitely go to the Russ and Daughters Cafe.

Yonah Schimmels :

Yonah Schimmels is a very old, yet very good knish place on the lower east side. All I can say is order it warm with mustard, and get a plain potato knish. Simple is the best in this case. Also at Yonah Schimmels, they have a fermented yogurt drink, which is supposed to be delicious, but I never got to try it because some days they make it and other days they don't. We got there on a day which they didn't make it. Anyway, I definitely recommend going to Yonah Schimmels.

Katz Delicatessen:

Katz Delicatessen is a world renowned place that serves excellent ruebens, corned beef, pastrami, and much much more. As we walked in the place was packed and loud and smelled like cooked meat, which is good. We went up to the counter and we ordered a rueben, a pastrami on rye, and a bunch of half sour pickles. The sandwiches stay for a while. So when we got back home we ate them for dinner, and they were still warm!! The pastrami was so tender, and although I am not a corned beef person, it was pretty darn good. The pickles had a good crunch, and the people there were very accommodating. Go to Katz Delicatessen, and come with an empty stomach.

Kossar's:

Kossars has been around for a while and their recipes have been mastered, which explains why their bialys, and the smell of their store make my mouth water. We got 1 dozen bialys, and a bulka, which is like a softer, smaller baguette with poppy seeds. It was fantastic, and it came out warm! Yum! They were out of pletzels that day, but if you go there, get those too! Go to Kossar's if you want good bagels, bialy's, bulka, or pletzels!

Murrays Cheese Shop:

Imagine walking into a big store, and it smelling like cheese in every direction. That is what Murrays is. It is one huge cheese shop with every imaginable cheese. My uncle Joe and I went in and got taleggio, Montgomery Cheddar, and a wonderful blue cheese, which I forget the name of, but it was great. My uncle also got 2 bottles of hard cider, and although I didn't try them, the color was beautiful, and both bottles were gone by the morning. I have no doubt that if you want good cheese in NYC, you go to Murrays.

That pretty much wraps up our day in NYC. It was a great food experience and an unforgettable one to.

P.S Go to Eataly, it was closed the day we went there, and also go the the Essex Street Market, and go to Barney Green Grass!!
